BET is airing a 2 part segment on this exact topic. To appear are some of the most influential African Americans today. Everyone from rappers to politicians to activist. From the commercial I'm tuning in because this is an ongoing topic and while I doubt it'll solve anything, I'm interested in the point of views.
I personally can play every side and feel that this is why this topic will never be put to rest. "It takes a village to raise a child" has never been truer. It is a circle. There is no single person solely responsible. We as a community are a team. If one of us drops the ball, we fail. I wish they'd stop pointing the finger and find a way to work together to solve the problems in the community.
Although unfairly targeted, I wish rappers would realize how much influence they really have. And with that I have posed the question to a few local artist and people in the public eye:
What do you feel is your responsibility as AN ARTIST to your fans, your community, and the youth??
Interested in their feedback and will post once I receive it!!
My song choice for this post is "Miracles" by DC's own MAMBO SAUCE. While it delivers a very positive message and will almost surely motivate our youth, as native DC residents would say, "IT CRANKS!"
